While I was in the lovely city of Montgomery seeing The ever so marvelous D this weekend I stopped at a shop that had loads and loads of yarn and I decided that I was going to break out of the scarf mode and make a hat for my precious new niece, Julia.
Well, I knitted from about 5 this afternoon until about 11:30 this evening and here it is folks... my first hat... and let me tell you, it was a bitch, but man oh man, I am so proud.
I realize it doesn't look like much when propped on top of a makeup mirror, but really, it's so very cute.
As for the weekend, it was great! Me and The D had a lovely time, except for the fact that he was stricken with the beginnings of the plague, which was terribly unfortunate, however, The D pretended that he felt so very fine and took me to dinner and introduced me to the film 'Quai des Orfevres' which was wonderful. We also watched the Oscars and played a couple of rousing games of SceneIt?, a DVD board game and yes, The D beat me both times. Bastard. But that's ok, there's always next time. The game is fun, though... I do recommend it.
Anyway, just had to share my hat and my weekend with you folks. I know you are riveted.
Can't wait to see your pink and green hat! We're such preppies. HA! I know we both wear it with a huge dose of irony.
Yesterday I spent my last thin dime on huge circular needles for an afghan project my niece Emily has commissioned; and for myself 10 skeins of denim yarn to make a skirt. I'm waiting to see if tackling a big project will cure me of my addiction. I've gone totally overboard on iPod cozies that I can make during one night of tv.

I used circular needles AND double pointed needles! I mean really, was I trying to cure myself of the knitting love or what? Actually, the worst part is that I picked the absolute worst yarn ever for that project so that is what made it even more difficult. But hey, such is life.
You also inspired me... I just made a pink and green hat for myself. Heeeeee!
I'm addicted! Make it stop!

TOTALLY RIVETED. okay, even though this is not a knitting blog, i have to commend you on your beautiful hat! it's gorgeous! julia will look amazing in it. that's not an easy pattern, missy, no wonder it was a bitch to make. did you use circular needles? double pointed? i have to confess that before i figured out how to switch to the double pointed, shaping the crown of a hat was the worst. must go order more yarn right now. xxxoooo
